Wietmarschen (dpa / lni) - A jogger was seriously injured in the foot by a nail trap in a forest near Wietmarschen (Grafschaft Bentheim district).

Unknown people let several of these traps in the ground on paths in the Lohner forest, a police spokesman said on Monday.

The jogger was injured when he stepped on the nail.

According to this, the traps consist of metal plates about five by five centimeters with two pointed metal prongs welded onto them.

They were stuck with an anchor in the forest floor and were hardly recognizable because of their rusty color, said the police spokesman.

The traps, which were discovered on popular hiking trails in the forest area, could cause serious injuries to hikers and recreational athletes, the police said.

In the case of the injured jogger, the officers are now investigating dangerous bodily harm.

The police also asked the population for information about the trappers.
