Rostock (dpa / mv) - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Interior Minister Torsten Renz (CDU) has vehemently rejected allegations that he had been illegal to shop in downtown Rostock on Monday morning.

"I was out on business for an hour to see the situation on site," said Renz of the German press agency.

However, he admitted that he had bought a charging cable.

He also mentioned this purchase in a live interview.

The decision to visit Rostock was made spontaneously and without prior notice to his employees.

Riot police and additional patrol duty were on the way in the city.

He spoke to officials at three locations and had the situation described.

He also talked to business people and salespeople.

During this hour on Kröpeliner Strasse, he was also concerned with testing the Luca app.

Since Rostock has had a low seven-day incidence for weeks, the shops there have been open since Monday as well as in the Vorpommern-Rügen district.

However, only locals are allowed to shop there.

Renz lives in the Rostock district, where the incidence on Sunday was 101.9.
