It is noted that first the police came to the square to issue fines to those who gathered there in violation of restrictive measures for mass gatherings introduced during the quarantine period.
The Greek Police Department reported that a group of police special forces had been "unprovoked during an inspection to implement measures to prevent and limit the spread of coronavirus."
According to the police, a group of 30 people attacked the special forces, as a result of which two police officers were injured.
The police forces, which were sent to the square, detained 11 people from the group of attackers.
A criminal case was opened against them.
Earlier it was reported that more than 1,100 new cases of coronavirus were detected in Greece per day.
