Leipzig (dpa / sn) - A passer-by found a fire bomb in the Leipzig district of Connewitz on Monday.

The police spoke of a phosphorus bomb in the evening, but were unable to classify the explosive device.

The police cordoned off the area and called the ordnance disposal service.

The experts found that the detonator was still active and that the bomb therefore had to be specifically detonated, it said.

Since there was a gas pipeline nearby, the explosive device was transported away.

Phosphorus bombs were used as incendiary bombs during World War II.
