Potsdam (dpa / bb) - Brandenburg's Minister for Women Ursula Nonnemacher (Greens) called for International Women's Day not to let up in the fight for equality for women in society.

"I think this is a great date, but we know: we have to be courageous and combative on all days of the year," said Nonnemacher on Monday at the meeting of the state parliament's health committee.

In contrast to Berlin, March 8th is not a public holiday in Brandenburg.

Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) had previously thanked women for their services in the corona pandemic.

They bore the brunt of the crisis and have achieved great things in the past few months.

This year's Brandenburg Women's Week has the motto “Superheroes at their limit”.

More than 50 events are announced nationwide by December 10th.

According to the head of government, this Tuesday the cabinet is dealing with the 3rd framework program for gender equality for the country from 2020 to 2025. It is about equal opportunities for women and men, girls and boys.

The proportion of women in decision-making and management positions should be increased.
