Munich (AP) - DFB captain Manuel Neuer is holding back in the discussion about Thomas Müller's return to the German national soccer team.

A comeback of his team-mate from FC Bayern would make him happy if it came to that, but "in any case," said Neuer on Sunday evening in the broadcast "Blickpunkt Sport" of the Bavarian radio.

"I think he showed his performance and he's a player who is immensely important to us at FC Bayern."

National coach Joachim Löw had recently stated more clearly that Müller, whom he had sorted out together with Jérôme Boateng and Mats Hummels in spring 2019, to the EM next summer was possible.

The EM is "a separate competition, and of course it is our job to bring the best players out there and the best team in order to guarantee the greatest possible success," Loew said.

Müller signaled at the weekend that he would like to “hunt for titles next summer”.

Neuer did not aggressively demand Müller's return.

However, the captain emphasized the role of the 2014 world champion as the “pivot” at Bayern.

In addition, the "radio" Müller functions perfectly, the 31-year-old is one of the loudspeakers on the pitch, which his teammates use for orientation.

Loew has not yet let him in on his considerations, said Neuer.

The first international matches of the year in the World Cup qualification are due at the end of March.

With a view to the EM, it will be the case, as in spring 2019, “that the decision will again be made by those responsible,” said Neuer.
