Member of the Bundestag Georg Nüßlein, who is criticized for dealing with corona protective masks, has resigned from the CSU.

This was announced by General Secretary Markus Blume on Monday after a switch from the CSU Presidium.

The CSU chairman Markus Söder had previously threatened Nüßlein with sanctions from the party leadership.

Nüßlein also violated the party’s internal rules with his behavior, Söder said on Monday in the ZDF “Morgenmagazin”.

The CSU Presidium wanted to advise "what partial consequences this must have".

After his withdrawal from the Union faction in the Bundestag, Söder called on Nüßlein to surrender his Bundestag mandate.

This would be “better and more consistent”, otherwise the impression would arise that Nüßlein might want to stay in the Bundestag for other reasons.

In addition, the CSU boss demanded von Nüßlein to donate the money earned with the mask business.

Overall, "great damage" was caused by the allegations.

The Baden-Württemberg MP Nikolas Löbel and his Bavarian colleague Nüßlein are said to have collected six-figure commissions for brokering business with corona protective masks.

Both have now announced their exit from the Union faction in the Bundestag, Löbel has already resigned his mandate and resigned from the CDU, while Nüßlein wants to remain a member of the Bundestag until the end of the legislative period.
