Frankfurt / Main (dpa / lhe) - A lot of home office, no celebrations and hotel visits: the consequences of the corona pandemic are also being felt by the dry cleaning industry in Hesse.

The lockdown caused the sales of companies with private customer business to collapse as well as of laundries that specialize in hotels or catering, said the Association of Textile Services Southwest.

"For private individuals, the measures simply reduce the need for professional cleaning," said managing director Andreas Schumacher of the German Press Agency.

"The men's business shirt alone accounts for around 30 to 40 percent of sales in dry cleaners with exclusive private customer business."

In addition, there are business suits: "This turnover has fallen extremely in the Hessian companies, on average by around three quarters."

It looks even worse in evening wear and party wear.

According to Schumacher, those companies that clean hotel laundry are also affected.

Currently, hotels for tourist purposes are not allowed to receive guests.

"That means enormous sales losses for laundries."
