Berlin (dpa) - The International Tourism Exchange (ITB) is considered by many to be the "largest travel agency in the world".

But everything is different in the corona pandemic.

The industry meeting will take place online this year and exclusively for trade visitors (March 9th to 12th).

"We have developed an alternative concept with which we, as the world's leading travel trade fair, can once again offer our partners and customers a reliable platform for global networks, business and content," the organizers announced last year.

In spring 2020, the ITB was canceled five days before the planned start due to the outbreak of the corona pandemic.

In the previous year, up to 160,000 visitors came to the five days of the fair with around 10,000 exhibitors.

Tourism is one of the industries hardest hit by the restrictions in the pandemic.

The industry wants politicians to provide perspectives and guidelines for the current season.

According to a study, vacation trips are still high on the wish lists of people in Germany, but the corona pandemic is slowing down planning.

According to this, 38 percent do not yet know whether they will travel this year.

According to the Research Association for Holidays and Travel (FUR), this is more than twice as much as in the previous year.
