“The papal visit to Iraq is positive and important,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Seyyed Khatibzadeh said at a press conference.

According to him, the visit was made possible thanks to "the calmness and security in Iraq."

“The meeting with the leader of the Iraqi Shiites, Ayatollah Sistani, indicated inter-religious dialogue and demonstrated the closeness of religions,” the Iranian diplomat was quoted as saying by Interfax.

On Friday, March 5, the Pope arrived in Iraq, one of the goals of the visit was to support the Christian population of the country.
