Women and men are different in many ways, and science helps explain a few.

This was shown on Monday by Jimmy Mohamed, health consultant from Europe 1, who explains that certain areas of the brain are more or less activated depending on the sex of the individual.

Sense of humor, sleep or even generosity and altruism.

These are all parameters that can vary against all expectations depending on the sex of the individuals.

On the occasion of International Women's Day, Dr. Jimmy Mohamed returned in his column Our Health to certain differences between men and women, which science partly explains.

A different reception of humor

"If we ask men and women about their ideal in terms of a sense of humor, all the participants evoke a male comedian. Behind that, there may be socio-cultural factors, because men are more represented on the comic scene. On the other hand, if one is interested in the use of humor, one realizes that there is a real difference between the two sexes ", explains the doctor.

Indeed, men use humor as a kind of competition between them, while women use it to relate to the people around them.

"According to science, the expression woman who half-laughs in bed is not entirely wrong. There is a correlation between the number of jokes a woman actually laughs at and the desire to see the man again. which makes her laugh. And apart from that, laughter quite simply strengthens the bond between individuals, "continues Jimmy Mohamed.

Sleep related to being a mother

When it comes to sleep, it turns out that both sexes are about the same level in terms of needs.

On the other hand, according to doctor Jimmy Mohamed, there would be a different chronobiology.

"Men under 40 are more evening, then mature men would have a rhythm of going to bed and getting up closer to that of younger women. This would explain the recompositions between mature men and slightly younger women. to try to keep up with the same rhythm, ”says the doctor.

, Professor Pierre Philip explains that the perception of sleep in women is a little different: the latter often complain of sleep disorders, while many of them sleep properly, without it. perceive, "says Jimmy Mohamed.

One of the physiological explanations, which is not entirely validated, would be that women wake up at night to hear the baby better.

It is for this reason that they would have poorer quality sleep.

Women more altruistic according to science

Finally, Jimmy Mohamed returns to the received idea that women are more generous than men.

A finding finally scientifically proven.

"Women are more altruistic, more generous and more attentive, while men are a little more concerned with their little person. When a woman gives, and shares, the pleasure zone activates in the brain. While in humans, it will activate only when it serves its own interests, "says the health consultant of Europe 1.
