Frankfurt / Main (dpa) - Makoto Hasebe does not think about the football retirement even at the age of 37 and has extended his expiring contract with Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt for another season until summer 2022.

«Makoto Hasebe is a picture book professional.

He works with great diligence on his body and subordinates everything to professional football.

The fact that he is still a top performer at his age and an indispensable part of the team is primarily due to his highly professional attitude, ”said Frankfurt's sports director Fredi Bobic on Monday.

Hasebe has played a total of 331 top division games so far, making it Asia's record player in the Bundesliga.

The Japanese has worn the Eintracht jersey 228 times since 2014.

This makes the defensive player the most frequently used player from the current squad.

Before his time, Hasebe was on the ball in Germany at 1. FC Nürnberg and VfL Wolfsburg, with whom he became German champion in 2009. With Eintracht he won the DFB Cup in 2018.

In the current season Hasebe played a total of 1695 minutes in 20 games - only three teammates have more playing times.

"On and off the field, he is a perfect leader and achiever, so everyone is convinced that he will give Eintracht great joy in the coming season," said Bobic.
