Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) - The Saarland Prime Minister Tobias Hans (CDU) has called on the state's citizens to be tested for the corona virus.

"We have taken all the precautions to be able to start a real test offensive now," he said on Monday before the state parliament in Saarbrücken.

He appealed to the citizens: "Please make active use of this offer."

This helps to protect many other people from infection.

There are a total of seven corona test centers in Saarland, more than anywhere else.

Soon pharmacies, doctors and then also aid organizations should be able to test.

The Saarland will in future offer all citizens a free quick test per week.

The government has already ordered 2.5 million rapid tests for self-use.

Of these, 500,000 have already been distributed, and delivery of another 500,000 is expected this week.

You now need “finally more electronic aids” in order to be able to prove negative tests.

This is what is being “feverishly worked” in Saarland.

Hans said that with almost 4,000 vaccinations a day, the vaccination centers are now 75 percent full.

"All vaccines, including Astrazeneca's, are well received," said the Prime Minister.

"We are at the top nationwide when it comes to initial vaccinations."

It is already being vaccinated in doctors' offices and "soon also in hospitals".

Successes of vaccinations and tests can be seen above all in care facilities.

There, the proportion of over 80-year-olds among the newly infected has been halved to around six percent.
