Hamburg (dpa / lno) - A new date has been found for the 35th edition of the Hamburg Marathon.

As the organizer MHV announced on Monday, an agreement was reached with the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg on September 12th as the official event date.

Hamburg's oldest major sports event had to be postponed repeatedly in 2020 due to the corona pandemic.

The running event should now take place on the Sunday in September.

«We are very pleased that, after thorough coordination, an event date has now been found that at the moment not only offers good opportunities for the implementation of the race, but also and above all a very good signal for popular sport in Active City Hamburg and above out is », said Sports Councilor Christoph Holstein.

"We now have extensive planning security and sufficient lead time to prepare the event professionally," added marathon chief organizer Frank Thaleiser.

All previously registered participants will now be written to, the organizer said.

You can transfer your registration to the new date in the fall by online query or choose other forms of compensation.

In addition, online registration for the marathon, half marathon and marathon relay competitions is open again with immediate effect.

For organizational reasons, the quotas for the marathon and relay marathon are slightly reduced.

There are 8,000 starting places available in the Hamburg Marathon, for the relay marathon the number is limited to 1,000 places for four participants.

And for the half marathon there are 4,000 starting places on offer.
