Munich (dpa) - An exhibition in Munich wants to approach the anonymous artist Banksy.

From Wednesday to May 2nd, “The Mystery of Banksy - A Genius Mind” gives insights into the career and work of the graffiti artist and painter, whose identity is secret and whose works are sometimes auctioned for many millions of euros.

You can see prints, photos, sculptures and video installations.

Graffiti that Banksy has sprayed on houses and other surfaces around the world has also been copied.

Banksy himself did not authorize the show.

Most of the around 100 exhibits are reproductions.

But there are also some originals to be seen, reported the organizers.

A copy of the picture "Girl With Balloon" is shown, for example.

At an auction in 2018, a hidden device suddenly started shredding the work, to the horror of everyone present.

The tour shows Banksy as an artist who takes up social and political issues, such as the suffering of people on the move.

And he comments on a lot with humor.

The London Underground train car that Banksy sprayed with rats and corona masks in the summer of 2020 was recreated.

A video installation also takes up the motif of a subway station.

It doesn't come from Banksy, but lets viewers immerse themselves in his work.

The curator is the Mexican artist Guillermo S. Quintana, who lives in Berlin.

The exhibition is a tribute, he says.

Banksy expresses a lot of what we think in his works.

Great artists usually have a great ego.

"The nice thing about Banksy is that he destroyed the ego and the idea of what a great artist is," said Quintana.

After Munich, the organizers also want to present the show in Berlin and Heidelberg.
