Rentweinsdorf (dpa / lby) - Despite oncoming traffic, a still unknown driver overtook a car in Lower Franconia and thus caused an accident with a police officer.

The person who caused the accident overtook a 76-year-old driver on a state road near Rentweinsdorf (Haßberge district), although the police car was approaching, as the police announced on Monday.

The policeman was slightly injured.

The 32-year-old driver of the police car therefore braked heavily on Sunday evening, lost control of his car and collided with the 76-year-old.

This and the colleague of the police officer, who was sitting next to him in the passenger seat, were reportedly unharmed.

The person who caused the accident simply drove on.

He is now being searched for.
