Leipzig (AP) - The handball players of the SC DHfK Leipzig have signed the Swedish national player Oskar Sunnefeldt for the upcoming Bundesliga season.

The 22-year-old back player from the German record champions THW Kiel signed a contract in Leipzig until 2024, the club announced on Monday.

“For me, a new, exciting section begins in Leipzig.

The three-year contract in Leipzig offers me good prospects to develop myself further and to become an even better handball player, ”said Sunnefeldt, who switched to THW in October 2020 and has so far played 24 games for the zebras.

The 1.98 meter tall right-hander was part of the Swedish national team at the World Cup in Egypt and won the silver medal with his team.

Together with Marko Mamic and Julius Meyer-Siebert, Sunnefeldt is to form the new DHfK axis in the left rear area.

The Swede can also be used in the playmaker position.

“We've been watching him since he moved from his Swedish hometown club Sävehof to Sönderjyske in Denmark.

I'm happy that Oskar will play for us next season and continue his development here.

I think he is one of the most promising talents of his year, ”said head coach André Haber.
