Unterweißbach (dpa / th) - An accident near Unterweißbach (Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district) led to a major police operation.
According to the police, a 65-year-old cyclist asked a local resident to call for help on Sunday evening - someone hit him and fled.
Because the 65-year-old had disappeared when the rescue workers arrived, police officers used a helicopter with a thermal imaging camera to search for the possibly seriously injured person.
Eventually he was found slightly injured, but mentally confused, sitting by a tree.
According to the information on Monday, an oncoming car had grazed the cyclist in a curve with the high beam switched on.
The police are now investigating suspected traffic accident escape.
