The Yemeni army and the popular resistance have resumed confrontations against the Houthis on the Taiz front recently, in a move that many counted as support and relief for the Marib front, which the Houthis have intensified their attacks on for more than 25 days.

According to the government army's announcement, it has made progress in Marib and Taiz over the past two days, while the Houthis have reduced their victories, focusing on their attacks on Saudi territory.

Politicians believe that opening new fronts will serve the government side by employing their results in any future negotiations, and relieving pressure and embarrassment from any fracture that may occur in the Ma'rib front.

A new reality

The Deputy Minister of Information in the legitimate government, Muhammad Qizan, says that the Houthi militia has been mobilizing for months and desperate to invade Marib, because the governorate represents the symbolism of legitimacy, as it is a province rich in gas, oil and electric power.

He adds that Marib has a great human strength approaching about 3 million people, most of whom are opponents of the Houthi group, who were displaced from the governorates occupied by the group.

Qizan explained to Al-Jazeera Net that these advantages impose the duty to defend Marib by all possible means, and on top of that is to move all combat fronts in all governorates that lie on the lines of contact with the Houthis, so as not to leave them the opportunity to be singled out in one governorate after another.

The Deputy Minister of Information believes that moving the battlefronts in Taiz governorate will relieve the pressure on Marib and disperse the Houthi crowd and weaken it, not to mention the great importance of the Taiz governorate to the Yemenis, as it is the heart of the revolution and the maker of change, and by liberating it from the Houthis, the Iranian project will be killed and separatist dreams will vanish, according to Saying.

Qizan notes that Taiz is not an incubator for the Houthi project, and that "its residents suffer greatly as a result of the unjust blockade and the constant bombing by the Houthis."

The government official also believes that the National Army’s policy of depleting the Houthis and inflicting defeats on them in Marib, Taiz, Al-Jawf, and Al-Dhalea will create a new reality on the ground, and will change the strategy of the battle until the National Army takes the lead and turns from defense to attack.

"Instead of defending in the outskirts of Ma'rib or Taiz, the wheel of liberation will move towards Sanaa to restore the state and its constitutional institutions," he added.

Qizan believes that the repercussions of the retreat of the Houthis in Marib and Taiz and the victories achieved by the army during the past week will impose a political reality, and will force the Houthis and their supporters to accept the implementation of the UN resolutions on Yemen, especially Resolution 2216.

Psychological

On the other hand, the Houthi governor’s office of Taiz, Salim Muhammad al-Mughalis, reduces the value of the government army’s victories, and says that the victories reported on the Taiz front are rumors aimed at trying to mislead public opinion and sow a lost psychological war, in order to raise the morale of the fighters on the Marib front.

"The dust of the battle will be cleared, the facts will be revealed, there will be screaming, crying, and accusations exchanged between the mercenaries' tools, and the army and the popular committees will remain on the lookout for everyone who has sold their religion, land and display."

The governor’s office considers what is happening as trafficking in Taiz by deceiving its children under false titles and bogus victories.

Yesterday, Thursday, Al-Maghlis called for the announcement of the general mobilization and heading to the battle fronts, after the National Army advanced in some locations.

Yassin Al-Tamimi: The Houthi group took advantage of the calm of the fronts and mobilized for its last and decisive battle in Marib (Al-Jazeera)

All-out confrontation

In the same context, political analyst Yassin Al-Tamimi considers that the resumption of the fighting in Taiz represents a qualitative shift in the context of the supposed comprehensive confrontation with the Houthi group, which took advantage of the calm of the fronts and mobilized for its last and decisive battle in Marib.

Al-Tamimi believes that there are urgent reasons in Taiz to resume the confrontations and lift the siege, but "unfortunately," the coalition worked to keep the situation as it is and was busy establishing the UAE forces affiliated with it on the western coast, so that Taiz would remain in the category of strategic gains for the Houthis.

Al-Tamimi assures Al-Jazeera Net that expanding the circle of battles on multiple fronts will exhaust the Houthis and create a new reality that is included in the strategic and political gains of the legitimate government, and strengthens its position in the political settlement that the United States places all its weight to accomplish, and ensures that it will not turn into a bad deal.

For his part, political analyst Abdel Nasser Al-Mawadda says that the opening of new fronts aims to relieve pressure on Marib, adding that the success of this step depends on good planning to open these fronts and the provision of resources and capabilities to make a change in the military equation.

Al-Mawda believes that these fronts were opened by the same forces on the ground, without large support and supplies, and he is unlikely to achieve their goals even if some limited achievements occurred in favor of the attacking forces and the Houthis lost some secondary areas.
