On March 7, State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi talked about his views on the situation in the Middle East and the Gulf and the Iranian nuclear issue at the press conference of the two sessions.

Wang Yi said that the Iranian nuclear issue is a sensitive nerve affecting the situation in the Middle East and the Gulf.

In the past four years, the US has blatantly violated its commitments, unilaterally withdrew from the comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue, and exerted extreme pressure on Iran, which has caused tensions in the region to escalate again.

The new US administration has expressed its willingness to return to the comprehensive agreement and hopes that the US will show its sincerity and take actions as soon as possible, including lifting unlawful unilateral sanctions and lifting long-arm jurisdiction over third-party entities and individuals.

At the same time, Iran should also fully resume compliance and assume responsibility for nuclear non-proliferation.

The actions of the United States and Iran can move forward in a step-by-step and reciprocal manner.

Wang Yi said that the comprehensive agreement cannot solve all the problems in the Middle East and Gulf region.

For regional security issues other than the Iranian nuclear issue, we propose to build a multilateral dialogue platform in the Gulf region under the premise of maintaining the comprehensive agreement. All parties can use this platform to manage conflicts and differences through collective consultations, ease tensions, and jointly safeguard the region. Peace and stability.
