Wolfsburg (AP) - Professional footballer Paulo Otavio from VfL Wolfsburg has apologized with a long Instagram message for his tough foul and his red card in the game at 1899 Hoffenheim (1: 2).

"Thank God I didn't hurt my opponent," wrote the 26-year-old Brazilian late on Saturday evening.

“When I started this sport, I never imagined that I would get that far.

I've dreamed of moments when I would leave the games as a hero.

But I would say that it was one of the nightmares today. "

In stoppage time in the Bundesliga game on Saturday, Paulo Otavio brought down the Hoffenheim striker Munas Dabbur with a jumped-in tackle.

Referee Markus Schmidt then showed the defender the first red card of his professional career.
