(Two Sessions Express) Wang Yi on the Taiwan issue: Urges the new US government to completely change the dangerous practice of "crossing the line" and "playing with fire" in the previous session

China News Service, Beijing, March 7 (Reporter Li Jinlei) Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi pointed out that the one-China principle is a Sino-US relationship when discussing the Taiwan issue at the press conference of the Fourth Session of the 13th National People’s Congress on the 7th. The political foundation of China is an insurmountable red line.

He urged the new administration of the United States to completely change the dangerous practice of "crossing the line" and "playing with fire" of the previous administration, and to handle Taiwan-related issues prudently and properly.

Some reporters pointed out that the Trump administration of the United States had lifted restrictions on US-Taiwan exchanges, and some think tanks listed the Sino-US crisis on the Taiwan issue as the world's highest potential conflict.

When Wang Yi was asked about the Taiwan issue, he emphasized three aspects:

First of all, there is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory. This is a historical and legal fact, and it is also a general consensus of the international community.

Second, the two sides of the Taiwan Strait must be reunified, and it is bound to be reunified. This is the general trend and the collective will of the Chinese nation. It will not change, nor can it be changed.

The Chinese government is unwavering in its determination to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity. We are capable of thwarting any form of "Taiwan independence" separatist actions.

Third, the one-China principle is the political foundation of Sino-US relations and an insurmountable red line.

The Chinese government has no room for compromise on the Taiwan issue and no room for concession.

Wang Yi said that he urges the new US government to fully understand the high sensitivity of the Taiwan issue, earnestly abide by the one-China principle and the three Sino-US joint communiqués, and completely change the previous government’s dangerous practices of “crossing the line” and “playing with fire”, and be cautious. And properly handle Taiwan-related issues.
