- If they find false positives, ie for many, it does not do much.

But they must absolutely not miss anyone who is ill, says researcher Tove Fall, who is leading the study.

The study, which UNT previously reported on, is a collaboration between Uppsala University, SLU, the Uppsala Region and two local dog training companies.

The companies have selected a total of eight dogs that they believe will be suitable for the job.

They will be trained in the spring and are expected to be ready in one to three months.

Voluntary samples

Everyone who tests for covid in Uppsala can voluntarily leave a scent sample, a cloth that they pull over the neck, which will then be used during training.

- So far, everyone has said yes.

There have been very positive reactions from several quarters, says Tove Fall.

Can be used at concerts

The hope is that the dogs can be used at larger workplaces, at concerts and other large events or at airports.

According to the researchers, it is estimated that the dogs will be infected as very small based on previous studies.

- The trainers will wear protective equipment for safety, but we assess that there is no risk for the dogs to become infected, says Tove Fall.
