Despite a relative lull observed, Saturday, March 6, in the capital, the tension has not subsided in Senegal: a new collective, called "Movement for the Defense of Democracy" (M2D), made up of opposition political groups (including the Pastef of Ousmane Sonko) and civil society organizations (such as the Y'en A Marre movement) called for new demonstrations, for three days from Monday March 8.

"A huge protest has swept across the entire Senegalese territory publicly disavowing Macky Sall and his government who have become condescending to the people,"

said Ndèye Fatou Diop Blondin, representative of the M2D movement

.

Threats and intimidation will in no way weaken the determination of the Senegalese people to fight to preserve their democracy.

 "

Resist

 "

“

The M2D

,” says Ndèye Fatou Diop Blondin,

recalls that the slogan is maintained and recalls its demands

: the immediate release of all political prisoners illegally and arbitrarily detained, the immediate restoration of television signals from Walf TV and SEN TV, recognition and respect for the right of citizens to peaceful demonstration, the opening of an investigation to identify, judge and condemn all the individuals involved in the sordid plots that led our country into this serious and dangerous crisis.

The M2D calls on the Senegalese people to take to the streets en masse for three days from Monday March 8 and we say "resist"

".

For its part, Idrissa Seck, came second in the last presidential election, and who recently joined the camp of President Macky Sall taking the head of the Economic, social and environmental appeals to Ousmane Sonko:

"

Serious disorders in public order in recent days in our country comes from the refusal of a citizen to submit to the justice of his country before which he was brought by a complaint for alleged rape, filed by another citizen, of equal dignity and 'equal right.

 "

Do not let yourself be manipulated

 "

I invite

, he also launches,

the activists of the opposition not to allow themselves to be manipulated or infiltrated by hooded interests, both national and international, which, frustrated at not having access to the oil and gas resources of the Senegal, frustrated at not seeing the State accede to their illegitimate demands, feed the plan to destabilize our country (.) I urge my young brother Ousmane Sonko to address his supporters to invite them to cease all insurrectional activities.

If he does so, I will then accede to the numerous requests to undertake political mediation for the rapid return to calm ”.

The mediator of the Republic, master Alioune Badara Cissé, announces a statement this Sunday, March 7 at midday.
