China News Service, March 7 reported that on the 6th, the Russian ambassador to Iran met with Velayati, the international affairs adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei, and delivered a letter from Russian President Putin to Khamenei.

The letter concerns the issue of strengthening bilateral relations between Russia and Iran.

  According to the Russian Satellite Network, the press officer of the Russian Embassy in Iran, Maxim Suslov, stated that Russian President Putin sent a letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei, and the Russian Ambassador to Tehran, Levan Janalyan, had sent the letter on the 6th. It was transferred to Khamenei's adviser Velayati.

  Suslov said on the 6th: "Today the ambassador was invited to have a meeting with the (Iranian) Supreme Leader's Senior Advisor. During this period, the letter has been forwarded. This is to the Iranian Parliament Speaker (to the Russian leadership) in early February (during his visit to Russia). Reply to the letter."

  He pointed out that the letter involved the strengthening of bilateral relations between Russia and Iran, "it also involved some international and regional aspects."

  According to the news agency of the Islamic Republic of Iran, during the meeting, Velayati stated that Russia is Iran’s “friend, neighbor and strategic partner”.

  Velayati said that Iran and Russia have proven effective in maintaining peace in the Middle East, especially in the fight against terrorism in Syria.

  He also said that Iran will strengthen its relations with Russia in various fields.

The two countries have signed good cooperation agreements in various fields such as energy, peaceful use of nuclear technology, and transportation, and they must step up implementation of these cooperation agreements.
