Nuremberg (dpa / lby) - The Nuremberg-based Ecumenical Working Group «Homosexuals and Church» (HuK) has been recognized for its commitment by the Swiss Herbert Haag Foundation for Freedom in the Church.

The video for the award ceremony was put online on Sunday.

For Corona reasons, it only took place digitally this year.

“HuK” has been “tirelessly grappling with the conflict field of homosexuality in church and religion since 1977”, it said in the explanation.

“She is committed to the acceptance of diverse forms of life and families, and she repeatedly takes a thorough and clear position in public campaigns and statements, as well as in academic work.

The foundation placed homosexuality as a challenge for the churches at the center of this year's award ceremony.

“Although“ marriage for all ”has been introduced in countries like Germany, Austria and Switzerland and discrimination against people on the basis of their sexual orientation is prohibited by law, little has happened in the Vatican when it comes to homosexuality.

This is increasingly met with incomprehension, even among many believers, ”said the foundation.
