Mühlhausen / Ammern (dpa / th) - The residents of Ammern in the Unstrut-Hainich district actually believed they were safe from thieves: They put the money for their breakfast rolls, which a baker regularly delivers, in bags and hung them on their front doors.

But for a few weeks now the money has disappeared.

The alleged thief could now be caught, the police said on Sunday.

A trap was set for the man who had been noticed by law enforcement officers near the crime scene.

Officials took down the number of a banknote from a cloth bag that, as always, hung on a door.

When the suspect was later checked, he denied the theft and showed the contents of his jacket pocket.

The previously registered banknote came to light.
