A total of 21 students at Mälardalen University had planned exchanges now during the spring semester.

In addition, several students who were to go on exchanges in the autumn had been brought forward to the spring.

But none of them have been allowed to leave.

- MDH does not want to contribute to the spread of the infection, in Sweden or abroad, and at the same time avoid that students could fall ill in other countries and not have the opportunity to return to Sweden.

Another significant reason why we did not send out students during the spring was that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continued to advise against traveling to a large number of countries, says Jessika Hedén, communicator at Mälardalen University.

No decision on exchanges this autumn

Of the university's almost 17,000 students, only those who attend the Academy of Economics, Society and Technology have been offered distance learning abroad.

14 students have chosen to attend such exchanges and Elin Jonsson is one of them.

38 students have declined.

These thus do not receive their international degree, but a Swedish philosophy master's degree.

Students at Mälardalen University have been able to go on exchanges on their own, but MDH has no knowledge of how many it may be.

- The hope is, of course, that we can send students on an exchange in the autumn semester of 2021, but we have not made a decision yet.

From the turn of the year, it will also be the case that Kammarkollegiet's insurance for students who travel does not apply to countries that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against traveling to, so the significance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' travel advice will be much sharper in the future, says Jessika Hedén.
