French star Karim Benzema saved his Real Madrid team from a loss in Derby, the Spanish capital, after he led the royal team to a fatal draw with his host Atlético Madrid 1-1 today, Sunday, in the top of the 26th round of LaLiga matches.
The draw prevented Atlético from flying far at the top of the competition, where it had 59 points, only 3 points ahead of Barcelona's closest stalkers - the biggest beneficiary of that result - knowing that Atletico still had a postponed match, while Real remained in third place with 54 points. .
Atletico scored through Uruguayan star Luis Suarez in the 15th minute, to raise his scoring tally in the competition to 17 goals in second place in the ranking of the tournament's top scorer, two goals behind the Argentine star Lionel Messi, Barcelona captain, to ignite the competition for the top scorer title with his friend and former fellow in the Blaugrana.

And while everyone prepared for the end of the match with the victory of Atletico, Benzema scored the precious equalizer for Real in the 88th minute.
