You can live a few kilometers from a regional capital and be far away from the Covid-19 vaccination centers.

In Ille-et-Vilaine, the prefecture and the regional health agency are fully aware of this and have launched a mobile vaccination service to reach the most isolated elderly people.

Led by the department's firefighters, this “vaccine patrol” has been traveling the roads of remote villages for three weeks and will continue its mission for a little over a month in order to continue the vaccination campaign among isolated populations.

"We do this because we think of people who cannot move," explains the director of the Regional Health Agency Stéphane Mulliez.

Offered to residents over 75 years of age in 25 small towns in the department, the “vaccimobile” campaign allowed the administration of 600 first doses.

Two hundred additional doses will be dispensed this week, before the fire truck resumes the road to administer the second dose to the elderly.

To support the firefighters, a doctor and a nurse are present with patients in small villages such as Saint-Senin, Bécherel, Val d'Anast or Irodouër.

It is the town halls of these rural communes which propose a list of inhabitants having difficulties to move.

An effort applauded by all mayors, even if the number of slots remains limited compared to demand.

As of March 3, Brittany had a vaccination coverage rate of 5.84%, one point higher than the national average.

At the same date, a little more than 300,000 injections had been carried out and 95% of residents in nursing homes had already been vaccinated, against 82% for the whole of France.

Brittany keeps the lowest incidence rate in France at 108 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and a positivity rate of 4.6%.

Finistère advances as the least affected department with an incidence of 56 per 100,000 inhabitants.

The French average is 220 cases, while the Alpes Maritimes exceed 550 cases.
