Berlin (dpa / bb) - The Füchse Berlin have stopped their downward trend in the handball Bundesliga.

After four defeats in a row, the Berliners won on Sunday in front of empty ranks at the table penultimate TuSEM Essen with 24:23 (15:11).

The Füchse offered a weak game, especially in the second half, but still regained fifth place in the table.

The best throwers from Berlin were Hans Lindberg and Valter Chrintz with four goals each.

The entire squad was available to coach Jaron Siewert.

The beginning of the game turned out to be balanced.

At first, the foxes ran after a narrow gap.

Especially in the cover center, they initially allowed too much and conceded a few goals in the district.

The hosts also tried to slow down again and again.

The Berliners, however, acted with significantly more speed.

But only after almost 19 minutes did the Füchse regain the lead (9: 8).

Essen now made some technical mistakes that the Berliners punished ice cold.

Goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev also showed some important saves.

With a 5-0 run, the guests were able to break away for the first time before the break (14: 9).

After changing sides, however, the foxes failed to break away even more clearly.

In attack, they often acted too unfocused, missed too many opportunities and gambled away a temporary six-goal lead.

Because two minutes before the end, Essen equalized again at 23:23.

But with 21 seconds to go, Paul Drux still scored to win.
