Berlin (dpa / bb) - The Eisbären Berlin have further consolidated their table leadership in the northern group of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL).

On Sunday evening, the capital city won against the Iserlohn Roosters 5: 2 (1: 1, 1: 0, 3: 1).

Zach Boychuk contributed two goals to the ultimately sovereign home win.

Marcel Noebels, Ryan McKiernan and Simon Després also met for the Berlin team.

In front of empty stands in the arena at Ostbahnhof, the hosts got off to a strong start: After less than two minutes, Noebels took the lead.

After a puck loss by the Berliners, the guests were able to equalize with a hit from Philip Riefers.

Despite some time penalties on both sides, no further goals were scored until the first break.

After the restart, the Berliners took control on the ice and used their individual qualities: Boychuk, who had previously hit the post, successfully completed a solo run.

In the final section McKiernan extended the lead before newcomer Després scored his first goal for the polar bears.

The guests were able to shorten it again thanks to a late power player from Joe Whitney, before Boychuk again ensured the well-deserved victory of the Berliners.
