Numerous burnt vehicles, degraded street furniture, clashes with the police ... The Lyon metropolis has been agitated for the past three nights by urban disturbances which bring back bad memories, amid accusations against the forces of the order that have just received reinforcements from Paris to prevent a possible escalation.

"We can think that there is a form of one-upmanship, the breeding ground is present in our area, but we do not hope for new disturbances in other neighborhoods this evening," confides a police union source.

La Duchère in Lyon on Thursday evening, Rillieux-la-Pape on Friday, then Bron on Saturday: the Lyon metropolis suffers from repeated urban overflows marked by clashes between young people and the police and numerous vehicle fires, reviving dark memories of 2005 and 2015, when the suburbs of Lyon took turns in flames.

The police taken to task on Saturday evening in Bron

In Bron on Saturday evening, an emergency police crew coming out of a juvenile home was attacked.

“They were 30 against three.

They had to abandon their vehicle to take refuge in the hostel ”and their van was damaged, reported a police source.

In a video relayed by the union of SICP commissioners, we can see about fifteen young people kicking the doors, hood and windshield of the vehicle.

An investigation was entrusted to the departmental security.

In the opinion of the mayor LR of Bron Jérémie Bréaud, who is the subject of protection following repeated threats, it is the action of the police against drug trafficking that provoked this violence.

But a police source tells AFP that the police are also singled out following the accident of a minor that occurred during the clashes.

The firefighters intervened after the latter "had fallen on the stairs of a building hall," said the prefecture, without however being able to provide information on the severity of the young man's injuries.

In La Duchère, it was another accident, of a scooter this time, which set fire to the powder Thursday.

The day before, a 13-year-old teenager, who was riding without a helmet, was seriously injured after losing control of his vehicle.

According to the local press, young people from the neighborhood ensure that the scooter was pursued by an unmarked police car, which the prefecture has formally denied.

An investigation was entrusted to the IGPN into the circumstances of the accident.

"Colleagues intervened only to help this young person," defends a police union source.

“There is a minority which, today, whatever we can do, immediately mixes it up and points the finger at us”.

The mayor of Rillieux threatened

In Rillieux-la-Pape, a city classified in January among the districts of "republican reconquest" (QRR) by the Minister of the Interior Gerald Darmanin, 13 vehicles were set on fire on Friday evening.

According to the mayor LR de Rillieux Alexandre Vincendet, "some have used what happened (the day before) at La Duchère to give free rein to their violence".

Gérald Darmanin announced a total of 21 arrests, a majority of which concerned minors, after these three nights of unrest.

Nine suspects, including eight minors, were still in custody this Sunday.

Three young people, including an adult, arrested in La Duchère were waiting for their side to be presented to justice, according to the prosecution.

Claimed for many months by elected officials of the metropolis, a reinforcement of 200 police and gendarmes had been in full in Lyon since Saturday.

"We hope that it will dissuade further disturbances", confides a police source.

Sign that the Lyon climate is tending, the LR mayor of the 2nd arrondissement Pierre Oliver reported to Progress to have been "insulted and threatened" on Saturday by about thirty young people whom he surprised while shooting a wild rap clip in a parking lot in basement of Perrache station.

Faced with violence and incivility in Lyon, the president of the national rally Marine Le Pen blasted on Twitter the "weakness and laxity" of the government.

Traveling to Boulogne-sur-Mer (Pas-de-Calais) on Sunday, Gérald Darmanin estimated that "if there is urban violence, if there are cars that can burn, police officers who are caught in partly, elected officials threatened, it is because with the municipal police, but with the national police in the first place, one intervenes, one dismantles points of deal every day ".

"The more there will be harassment of these deal points, the more there is obviously a reaction from the dealers, but in the end it will always be the police who will win," he assured.
