Swine fever is spreading in China

China has declared an outbreak of African swine fever in Sichuan and Hebei provinces, the two main pork producers in the country.

The Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs said, in a statement, today, Saturday, that the outbreak has killed 38 pigs on a farm in Sichuan Province, the largest producer of pig meat in China.

In Hebei Province, the disease was detected in a bus that was illegally transporting pigs from another province.

China is the largest producer and consumer of pork in the world.

An outbreak of African swine fever consumed nearly half of the nation's swine wealth in 2019.

China also announced another outbreak of the disease last week in the southwestern province of Yunnan.
