Berlin (dpa / bb) - In Berlin, too, many people bought Corona self-tests at the Aldi discounter on Saturday.

A dpa reporter reported how a line of people formed before a market opened in the Friedrichshain district.

Some of them came away empty-handed because the discounter did not have enough tests for everyone.

A dpa photographer observed something similar in two other markets.

Users also wrote on Twitter that tests were sold out early in the morning.

Large-scale sales of Corona self-tests in German retail began on Saturday.

"As expected, the items that we had in store in the stores were sold out in most of our stores in the morning," said Aldi Süd and Aldi Nord.

The next deliveries are expected in the new week.

The discounter had already pointed out in advance that the promotional goods could be sold out on the first day of the promotion.

The quick test could be ordered online from competitor Lidl - provided that the customers even came to the payment process.
