- We notice when it is these hot summers that much more resources are used for irrigation, especially for the newly established trees, says Liselott Johansson.

The warmest year so far

New data from around 100 of SMHI's measuring stations show that the annual average temperature in the country was between 2–3.5 degrees above normal last year.

And the changes with an increasingly milder climate are here to stay according to SMHI.

- The weather is very variable and will be so in the future.

We will continue to have changing warmer and colder years, wetter and drier, but if we look at all types of weather, we will see this warming, so it is something we have to expect in the future, says Erik Kjellström, professor of climatology at SMHI.

The right plant in the right place

As a city gardener, Liselott Johansson has begun to think more about when new areas should be designed and new plants planted.

-If you want the plants to last a long time, we have to think a little so we get the right plant in the right place.

And when it comes to trees, we may have to think more ahead: Where are the trees?

How is the climate here and how are they affected?

says Liselott Johansson.
