Torun (dpa) - Pole vault climber and medal candidate Torben Blech has botched the qualification at the European Indoor Championships for athletes in Torun / Poland.
The 25-year-old from Leverkusen was able to cross 5.60 meters and was only ninth.
His club colleague Bo Kanda Lita-Baehre made it to the final on Sunday over 5.60 meters and Oleg Zernikel from Landau with 5.70 meters without fail.
Ex-decathlete Blech had increased his best performance to 5.86 meters this season and traveled to Poland as a medal contender.
The top favorite for the title is world record holder Armand Duplantis from Sweden, for whom a jump over 5.60 meters was enough to enter the final battle.
Ex-world record holder Renaud Lavillenie (France) did not start.
