Darmstadt (dpa / lhe) - As a wrong-way driver, a man drove on the Autobahn 5 near Darmstadt - probably to flee from the police.
It is very likely that it is the same driver who should be checked shortly beforehand at Weiterstadt (Darmstadt-Dieburg), said a police spokesman.
The man had accelerated during this check on Friday night.
According to initial findings, there were no accidents.
After ignoring the police's request to stop for the check, the man drove away in his limousine at extremely excessive speed.
The police temporarily lost sight of him.
A little later a patrol noticed how the man who had fled was driving his car from a parking lot on the A5 in the wrong direction onto the autobahn.
The police assume that the driver left the motorway at the next driveway.
He is described as a bald man about 50 years old.
