Alpen / Wesel (dpa / lnw) - The Wesel district prepared on Friday with a test run for the corona vaccinations planned for teachers, daycare staff and police officers from Monday (March 8).

In Alpen on the Lower Rhine, kindergarten teachers from twelve facilities were injected with the Astrazeneca vaccine, as the district announced.

According to the plans, 130 employees should receive vaccination protection.

The operation of a mobile vaccination unit with its own treatment room was practiced.

The district wants to expand its vaccination capacities.

Previously, the vaccine had been prepared in a mobile laboratory for vaccinations in old people's homes and care services, but then the doctors went to the facilities to see the vaccine candidates.

Now a larger number of people from all over the district come to the central mobile unit.

That ensures a faster process, said a spokeswoman.

The district had initially kept the location of the vaccination test a secret in order to avoid a rush of people willing to be vaccinated.

The vehicle for the mobile vaccination unit belongs to the Red Cross.

The country had presented its further vaccination plan at the beginning of the week.

Accordingly, from March 8, teachers, police officers and daycare workers as well as employees and workers in workshops for the disabled will be offered a vaccination.

The country estimates the number of beneficiaries of this group at more than 750,000 people.

The Astrazeneca vaccine is given to people under 65 years of age.
