Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The Rhineland-Palatinate Prime Minister Malu Dreyer (SPD) rejected allegations by CDU challenger Christian Baldauf about the state government's corona vaccination strategy in the TV duel on Friday evening.

"The success has proven our vaccination strategy right," she said on the SWR broadcast about a week before the state elections on March 14th.

Rhineland-Palatinate is at the forefront of vaccination across Germany.

Baldauf accused the state government of having miscalculated the number of available vaccine doses a few weeks ago.

There are numerous complaints from citizens that they could not get a vaccination appointment.

The state government took a zigzag course on the subject of school openings.

Dreyer explained that Rhineland-Palatinate is on the right way out of the corona crisis with the concept of vaccination, testing and careful relaxation.

She referred to the opening options for retail that had been announced just a few hours earlier, subject to conditions from Monday.

This decision was made together with the associations concerned and the municipalities.

Baldauf replied: "Now everything that has been announced must be fulfilled."
