Reinbek (dpa / lno) - If the athletes are not allowed to come to the club because of the corona pandemic, the club comes to them: TSV Reinbek in southern Schleswig-Holstein offers residents of a nearby senior citizens' residential complex twice a week window gymnastics.

«The offer grew out of Corona.

It is for everyone who we cannot reach with live streams and videos, such as people in an old people's home, ”says the sports director of TSV Reinbek, Uwe Schneider.

This is how the idea came about to do something especially for these people.

"Since we are no longer allowed to visit people in the house, we thought about doing the gymnastics at the window," says tutor Babette Rackwitz-Hilke.

She stands in front of the senior citizens' housing complex.

Some senior women are waiting at the open windows for their training, two old women are sitting outside on their walkers.

On this day, Rackwitz-Hilke plays music for senior fitness from a small Bluetooth box.

"When TSV offered us window gymnastics, I was there straight away," says participant Marianne Pinkus.

"We do that on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and that's really a great thing."

During training, she swings brightly colored cloths like the others, circles with her arms and ankles or does stretching exercises.

At the beginning, the response from the seniors was not as great as Rackwitz-Hilke says.

“Because you didn't know exactly what was going on now, why is there suddenly music out there now.

But after they recognized us as trainers, it has become an important appointment. "

Because, unlike at the beginning of the pandemic, when the mood was still good, she tipped over with the contact restrictions and also became depressed, says Rackwitz-Hilke.

«That was the signal for us that we absolutely have to go and do something.

Sport and exercise also have an effect on the body, happiness hormones are released.

And that is our goal: have fun and see each other again. "
