For politicians there are appearances that are embarrassing and nothing more.

In the best case for the politician, the citizen even suffers sympathetically.

And then there are embarrassing appearances that cause great damage and have what it takes to end political careers prematurely because they shake the trust of their own people, voters and potential political partners.

The video appearance of the new left boss Susanne Hennig-Wellsow on Thursday with the journalist Tilo Jung falls into the second category.

It shows a terrifyingly unsuspecting politician.

"Don't have all of them in view"

Susanne Hennig-Wellsow explains in a cut of the interview that she is not open to combat missions by the Bundeswehr.

“Which combat missions would you end?” Asks interviewer Jung.

Hennig-Wellsow: "I have to honestly say that I don't have all of them in view."

Does she have "an idea" how many combat missions of the Bundeswehr were going on?

No.

If she could give an example of a combat mission that she would like to end, Jung asks like a teacher who hopes the student might say something clever so that he doesn't have to give out a five.

Answer: Afghanistan.

Another one?

Short back and forth, but no further combat use.

“That's it?” Asks Jung.

There is “sure as hell” more, says Hennig-Wellsow.

In just 90 seconds, the 43-year-old made the hoped-for departure (personified in her) for the Left Party a crash landing.

Politicians don't always have to know everything, but they have to know their own content and demands - as well as their justifications.

Otherwise they reveal what a demand really is: an empty, ideological phrase.

Apparently Hennig-Wellsow has never questioned what a combat mission is in her opinion and why she wants to stop it.

That is surprising, to say the least.

Foreign missions are

the subject of

controversy in the Left Party and would be a crucial sticking point in terms of content should there ever be explorations with the SPD and the Greens.

The party leader should have made sure with her appearance that this is even less likely.

That’s a good thing.

Because anyone who is so clueless about the simplest questions about their own core issues does not belong in a federal government.

Anyone who wants to take responsibility also has the responsibility to obtain information.

Without knowledge, it is impossible to make responsible decisions.

Even voters who have not been deterred by socialist fantasies and partial observation of the party by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution must be given food for thought.

Just like the SPD and the Greens.

Although Green leader Robert Habeck has already revealed embarrassing knowledge gaps on the subject of Bafin, in contrast to foreign policy in the Left Party, questions of financial supervision do not determine entire party congresses for him.

The appearance is therefore also internally a fiasco for the new party leader.

Those who see the “peace policy” as the most important issue of the left have already feared that Hennig-Wellsow's position on the issue of the Bundeswehr might be too soft for their taste.

Your distrust has now been confirmed: How can the party leader negotiate a position with the Greens and the SPD in the event of a case without giving up ideals that identify the party if she does not even know them?

But no matter, the main thing is against it - at least that's what Hennig-Wellsow's spontaneous reaction to the clip reads: “There is only one correct answer to the question of how many combat missions the Bundeswehr should have: zero.

No matter how many there are.

Point.

By the way, anyone can google how many there are currently, ”Hennig-Wellsow tweeted during the night.

If she would have done that once.
