It is still impossible to find a consensus at the UN on the issue of Tigray: the Security Council met behind closed doors yesterday, Thursday, March 4, but has not yet succeeded in making a joint statement.
The African members of the Council, Niger, Tunisia and Kenya, were nevertheless in favor.
Three other heavyweights opposed it: Russia, China and India.

Americans, British and Europeans did not expect the opposition to come from there.
Everything was done to convince their African counterparts to move forward after the failure of mediation by the African Union, and Ireland, which had called for this meeting on Tigray, had also presented a draft joint declaration. .
Respect for sovereignty
But Russia, China and India, non-permanent members since January, quickly opposed any mention of the political crisis, arguing as always of respect for sovereignty - the shaping of this Council position is thus still in progress. Classes.
Investigation
If successful, this declaration would only focus on the humanitarian crisis: the UN is worried about the stagnation of the situation since November, as well as the lack of access of its teams and NGOs to refugees.
The "Westerners" of the Council have called for an investigation into the human rights violations, to document the responsibilities.
President of the Council this month, US Ambassador Thomas Greenfield reiterated the urgency to deal with Tigray, as the conflict directly threatens regional peace and security.
