Mainz / Koblenz (dpa / lrs) - The State Criminal Police Office (LKA) Rhineland-Palatinate warns against herbal mixtures with psychoactive substances.

In Koblenz in particular, there have been more medical emergencies in recent days after the consumption of so-called new psychoactive substances, the LKA announced on Friday.

"These substances could also be responsible for recent deaths," it said.

It is particularly difficult to treat patients, as doctors often do not know the exact ingredients of the herbal mixtures.

The health consequences are incalculable and could range from cardiovascular breakdowns and cramps to heart attacks and death.

According to the LKA, the herbal mixtures contain synthetically produced psychoactive substances and are often sold on the Internet.

Depending on the ingredients, the mixtures are subject to the Narcotics Act or the New Psychoactive Substances Act (NpSG).

"But even in cases in which these substances do not fall under the two aforementioned laws, there is an increased risk to health after their consumption," said the LKA.
