.

The economic and financial crime investigation service is looking for evidence to demonstrate whether or not there was an economic crime when the aluminum giant sold its factories.

In July 2019, Alcoa sold these two factories in Aviles and La Coruna to a Swiss fund, which then sold them to the current owner, Grupo Industrial Riesgo.

The American giant would have, according to the unions, carried out a fraudulent liquidation of the heritage.

The National Court of Audience opened this large-scale investigation following a complaint from 20 plaintiffs, including unions and a trade association.

Alcoa defended itself in a statement, assuring that the sale of the factories had been approved by the government and a majority of the employees and said to cooperate with the authorities.

When the three foundries of the American group were closed, the hundreds of employees affected by this decision had strongly expressed their disagreement.
