China News Service, March 5th. According to the South American Overseas Chinese News Network reported on the 4th, Guatemala’s National Institute of Earthquake, Volcano, Meteorology and Hydrology (Insivumeh) recently issued a report saying that Guatemala will enter a period of high disasters in 2021, with a total of 2 months. More than 400 earthquakes occurred.

The institute reminded the public to take disaster prevention measures to avoid harm.

According to reports, the report pointed out that a total of 409 earthquakes occurred in the country in January and February 2021, and 21 of them produced obvious tremors, with the highest magnitude reaching 6.1.

Earthquakes are mostly concentrated on the Pacific coast.

Among them, February 10 was the most frequent day of earthquakes, with 13 earthquakes occurring in 24 hours.

According to the report, the spokesperson of the National Disaster Reduction Coordination Center of Guatemala, De León, said that although more than 400 earthquakes did not cause actual damage, the frequent tremors caused panic among the people.

De Leon urged the public to take precautionary measures, stay calm when an earthquake occurs, stay away from easily collapsed objects such as trees and telephone poles, and find safe places of refuge.

In addition, De Leon suggested that the public prepare a "72-hour emergency kit", which contains the survival necessities that can last for 3 days in an emergency, in case of emergency.

In addition to earthquakes, volcanoes in Guatemala have also recently entered a period of frequent activity. Small eruptions have occurred around the craters of many volcanoes such as Fuego and Pacaya, which can erupt at most dozens of times per hour.

The eruption of volcanic ash has had an impact on the health of nearby residents.
