Greece declares three towns in central part of the country to enter a state of emergency due to the earthquake

Xinhua News Agency, Athens, March 5 (Reporter Yu Shuaishuai) Due to the recent continuous strong earthquakes in central Greece, the Greek government announced on the 5th that three towns in the central Thessaly region entered a state of emergency for six months.

According to the Athens-Macedonia News Agency, the Greek Ministry of Civil Protection and Crisis Management announced the decision on the same day.

In a state of emergency, local residents and governments have the right to apply for power and financial assistance to repair houses and corporate buildings damaged in the earthquake, as well as some damaged roads and water supply lines.

A magnitude 6.0 earthquake occurred at noon on the 3rd near Larissa, a major city in central Greece, and was accompanied by dozens of strong aftershocks.

On the evening of the 4th, another 5.9 magnitude earthquake occurred in this area.

The earthquake caused damage to some buildings and infrastructure, but no casualties were caused.

As it straddles two continental tectonic plates, Greece is a region prone to earthquakes.

Greek earthquake experts said that the two strong earthquakes came from different areas of the same fault, and the possibility of aftershocks of the same intensity cannot be ruled out.
