Berlin (dpa) - Internationally active German companies rate the prospects for their global business from a survey in the corona pandemic as bad as ever.

Only 17 percent of the companies expect better business in the next twelve months than in the crisis year 2020, according to a survey published on Friday by the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) among 2,400 companies.

In contrast, 27 percent expect a deterioration.

According to the information, the companies rate the prospects on the world markets as badly as never before since the survey began in 2012.

More than three quarters of the companies reported travel restrictions, 69 percent suffer from canceled trade fairs and events.

Almost half have had to cancel or postpone investments because of the pandemic, 44 percent recorded lower demand.

The expectations for international business in Europe and China are predominantly positive.

In contrast, German companies see poor prospects, especially in developing and emerging countries as well as in Great Britain.

From the companies' point of view, the problems are particularly great in trade with China and the rest of the Asia-Pacific region, primarily

due to increased transport costs in sea and air freight.

The respondents are also concerned about future business relationships with Great Britain and delays at the borders within the European Union, in particular the strict entry restrictions at the borders with the Czech Republic and Austria.

According to the survey, 47 percent of companies with logistics problems are looking for new or additional suppliers for their products.

More than 40 percent increase their inventory, which could lead to higher costs.

Some of the companies are also looking for suppliers who are closer to their production facilities, while some are relocating parts of production to their own company or to locations in Europe.
