Schönefeld (dpa) - At the new BER airport in the capital, the operators are looking for a solution to a problem with one of the fire alarm systems.

The sensors with laser technology can trigger a false alarm if the sun falls at a certain angle into the main pier of the main terminal, as an airport spokesman said.

"Der Spiegel" had previously reported on it.

According to the airport, this has resulted in two false alarms so far.

The detectors would therefore be switched off for one hour in the late afternoon by the end of the month.

But they are only one of several systems for fire alarms, which also include temperature gauges and cameras.

"The fire alarm system works," said the spokesman.

A smoke development is still recognized.

He contradicted the representation that additional fire brigade strips were now in use in the terminal.

Rather, trained security staff as fire watchers are encouraged to keep a particularly close eye on the area.
