Felipe VI visited the Seat factory in Martorell this Friday, March 5, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the automobile company.

The King has been accompanied by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, but no member of the Generalitat has attended the meeting, staging a new outrage against the Monarch and the President of Seat, Wayne Griffiths, who has also been present at the meeting .

The visit of Don Felipe also coincides with the atmosphere of tension that exists in Catalonia since the rapper Pablo Hasél was imprisoned three weeks ago.

Since then, radicals have staged riots, altercations and acts of urban vandalism every weekend.

In addition, Catalan politicians are in the process of negotiating the formation of the next government after the elections that Salvador Illa won but in which the pro-independence groups added a majority.

With this atmosphere, Don Felipe arrived at the Seat factory at 11 in the morning amid strong security measures.

However, although there was a demonstration called in the vicinity of the factory, the ANC has barely managed to gather a score of protesters who have not managed to boycott the entry of the Monarch into the plant, reports Germán González.

The King's visit to the electric car battery manufacturing plant coincides with the moment when the Government wants to ask Europe for an aid plan to facilitate the switch to electric cars.

After touring the plant, Don Felipe has reinforced Spain's commitment to Seat and to innovation.

"No other sector reflects more clearly the depth of the transformations that we have experienced in this historic moment. And all of us present at this event share the same goal: that the car of the future, the one in twenty years, is also manufactured here, in Martorell, and in other parts of Spain ", the King wanted to later gloss some advances of the factory.

"We are talking about an emblematic company for our country. The only one that designs, develops, produces and markets vehicles in Spain, through the SEAT and CUPRA brands. A company that has its roots in the history of our industry, but that looks decisively to the future, being our first industrial investor in R&D ".

Don Felipe has insisted that Spain must position itself at a high point in the leadership of this sector, and has shown his support for this to happen.

"Spain and all its institutions are going to be there. We have unique conditions to lead the transition towards the manufacture of clean vehicles, and not only with their assembly, but with the production of all the components of the value chain", He then said to add: "Our support is and will be absolute."

Lastly, the King wanted to highlight the forty years of union between the Volkswagen group and Spain and emphasize that our country is prepared to assume the manufacture of electric cars demanded by Europe, which wants to achieve climate neutrality in 2050. "Nobody can deny the success of this link, which is now about to inaugurate a new and exciting chapter. I know that we are ready. I am also aware that this alliance of companies and institutions for the ecological transition and for sustainable development has the support undoubted of Spanish society. We are a country that knows how to combine like no other the passion for change with respect for a universally recognized quality of life. "
